5 Interview tips if you have anxiety

If you have anxiety , you know how hard it can be to do well in a job interview.  It’s so hard to walk into an interview confidently, comfortably for someone with anxiety or even low self esteem, and feel like your doing well. There are a few tips I have used myself to help me get through a job interview. These tips will help you build confidence and hopefully lower the amount of worrying that comes anxiety.

The first tip I have is to get to know the company. Research the company you are applying for. It’s important to know what the atmosphere is like, employees experiences, customer experiences. It’s like getting to know someone before you actually meet them. This creates a sense of comfort and it help when answering the interview questions. I think this is a good tip for anyone really but, it will benefit someone with anxiety because you are not going into something unexpected.

The second tip is know what they are going to ask. The great thing is that most interview consist of similar questions. The questions are going to be about you and how you can contribute to the company. I think writing down a list of things you are good at and maybe even a summary about your life. A lot of people freeze when someone asks them to give information about themselves or to list things about themselves. So figuring these things out before hand will help alot. The three biggest questions to look for and that can get you stuck are, tell me about yourself?, Why do you want to join the company?, and where do you see yourself in 5 years? Have an idea about what you are going to say but don’t memorize what you are going to say. You want the word to come out as if it just popped in to your head. The next tip will help with this.

Okay so now that you have done all this preparing, it’s now time to forget.  I know this sounds crazy but it’s the best thing to do.  As someone with anxiety I tend to dwell on things that I have to do and I know that I am nervous/ anxious about it. And dwelling on things makes you worry , it gets you stuck. That’s what we don’t want to do and it’s the worst thing you can do. I like to get those two tips out the way and then move on with my day. I will distract myself with other things like watching a movie, writing, dancing sitting on my balcony. And then skip to the day of the interview and then all of a sudden you remember something and it’s the first two tips I gave you.  You are calm and confident because you didn’t spend time over analyzing  and beating yourself up and plus you are prepared.

Another tip is to give yourself affirmations to read that can induce confidence within your self. and sometimes giving yourself a pep talk filled with positive things is the best way to sullen anxiety. A few things I like to say to my self is life is good, life is great, and life is young. Saying these things help me keep a positive state of mind and hopefully will help you.

And last but not least, don’t forget to smile. When it all goes to shit, smile!I know this doesn’t  seem like a big tip but it is scientifically prove to brighten your day, brighten someone else’s day, or influence someone’s view of you with a smile. I can’t tell you how many people have complimented me or come up to me and say I have a nice smile.

Following these tips will have you walking out of your interview  like your somebody worth a billion.  And ultimately you are going to boost your confidence. Anyway, I hope these tips were helpful and I wish you well on your job interview.

Mid-night Notes #2

There’s something inside that just aches and yearns to be loved. Most times I go through life just going through the motions without a clue as to how I feel about it. Or how I feel about most things.

Which is how you end up at 3 am crying yourself to sleep and for what reason? I’ve come to the realization that as much as I crave to be loved so deeply and unconditionally, I also want nothing to do with it. I’m terrified that I could love someone like that, that someone could love me like that.

And as I lay here with the Goo Goo Dolls “iris”  in the back ground, I want nothing more then to have someone in my arms.

I cling on to my pillow in fear that if  I let go I won’t make it through, this pain. And I wonder… am I lonely?  And the truth is that I am. No one really knows me and that bothers me.

So I’ll cry my self to sleep tonight and tomorrow I feel better.

Top 5 Things on My Vision Board (2019)

We all have things we want to accomplish this year and I have a lot that I want to get into. One of the ways I felt will help me get inspired to complete my goals was by creating a vision board.

A vision board usually consist of visuals that are supposed to inspire and remind you what your goals are without the pressure of having to do them immediately and quickly. I find that vision boards allow me to take a goal, work towards it a little then sit back down again without feeling as if i’m a complete failure.

The whole point is to work towards your goals not necessarily complete them because completing them is the bonus.
With that being said, I decided to share the top 5 things on my vision board.

#1- Going Outdoors

I want to  spending time outside doing activities such as taking my dog on a walk, going to park with my niece, or doing some activity that is out side of my home. I spend most of my days inside watching YouTube, reading, or dancing. I feel like there’s so much to do outside and Sometimes It’s hard for me to get up and go.  And When I do go out I send most of my time at work. Mainly because my anxiety goes through the roof just thinking about socializing more than necessary. It’s probably why I like going out early in the morning when most people are sleeping in. Any way that is one of my goals and I also challenge you to get outside more, if you don’t already.

#2- Learn a New Skill

Picking up a new skill is always something I’m interested in doing. But there are two that I really want to do the most. The first one is dancing and the other is playing the guitar. I have always loved music and anything that comes with that. I have been dancing since I was really little but never took any dance classes and really regret not doing that. I don’t know if I’m any good but I would like to learn some choreographed pieces. I used to want to be a singer songwriter and always thought I’d have to learn to play an instrument and for me that instrument was guitar. I just find the guitar to be so cool and relaxing. Ps. I took both a piano and guitar class while in school and found that piano was a lot easier for me. This is something that I really want to do this year and I can’t wait to try it.

#3- Fitness

Getting toned and cutting out bad foods is by far going to be the hardest. This requires a lot of mental strength more than anything and I just know this will be the hardest to attempt. with that being said I want it and I am going to work hard to make sure that I am on the my way to getting where I want to be. And I will share my fitness journey with you all.

#4- Fashion and Hair

I want to explore fashion and really focus on wearing clothes that I feel comfortable in as well that express the way that I feel. I’ve spent most of my life being really insecure being myself around others and fashion has always been something I held back from. I always felt my style attracted attention and when I was younger I did everything to avoid attention. Now I’m 20 years old and just want to live my life no matter what attention I attract.

#5- Blogger

Blogging full time is a huge goal I want to accomplish. I actually do like blogging. I like the idea of creating something and then putting it out there for the world to see. I want to work hard at this and be more consistent with it. Consistency is something I struggle with all the time and is probably one of my biggest flaws. I plan on attacking this goal full on this year and I really excited about it.

Can’t wait to share this journey with you. What are some of the things on your list for 2019? What’s going to make this your year? let me know, maybe some of ours are the same.

5 Ways I Combat Anxiety

Anxiety is something a lot of people deal with including me. It took a while to figure out what to do to “get rid” of it. But it’s not something you just get rid of, you have to have to figure out why you have anxiety and what you can do to help you deal with it better to the point where it’s no longer a crutch.  Over time I have found ways to help me combat my anxiety and now I am sharing them with you.

The Five

  • Music is my favorite way that helps with anxiety. music is something that I have always loved and it’s a way to escape the chaos that happens in your head when you are overthinking things. I play music when going on walks, in the car and while waiting in line.

  • Inspiration in the form of others helps too. I follow people who deal with anxiety but still manage to live their lives. People like Zoe Sugg (Zoella), Emily Bett Rickards, and others who deal with anxiety  help me to keep pushing and doing the things I want to do.

  • Isolation is another way I cope with anxiety. When ever I feel like I’m extremely overwhelmed and about to panic I just remove myself from the environment. Sometimes I need to spend a few hours by myself with out the stress of talking with others and being social. Having a day of excitement and interchanging it with a day of mediocrity is okay. Everyone should have down time. And don’t get hard on yourself for needing this time away from everything.

  • Staying away from caffeinated drinks is a must. If you are someone who is already in your head too much then caffeine is the worst thing for you. It’ll make you more hyper active then you already are. It can create anxiety so stay away from it or just don’t take it as often.

  • Talking to someone about your anxiety is a great way to handle anxiety even if it’s just to your dog. Talk to your parents, your friends, your doctor or just let the stranger that’s trying to talk to you know. It gives you a since of relief and may help them understand how you are feeling. Being open about it is going to help you a lot.

If you haven’t yet, follow me on Instagram @life_ofsom. I have been posting a lot more and you can see what I’ve been up too over there. And I have been doing an Instagram get to know me edition. It’s still ongoing but I skipped a week. I don’t know how long I am doing it for so check it out.

Plus check out my last post where I talk about fearing failure and success.

Project Eat Less Meat: Black bean pasta?

I’ve been trying to live a healthy lifestyle for a while now  and one of my goals is to tone up and get fit. Eating less meat seems like the wrong  idea if you are tiring to tone up. but because I grew up with meat being in most meals it won’t be a big deal to take it out of some of my meals. Besides I can get protein in other forms.

The point of this post is to share a meal that I like and would help me and maybe others on their health and fitness journey. I made black bean pasta with peppers and onions.

can of black beans can od tomato soup Spinache and Semolini fettuccine noodles red pepper and green pepper purple_red onion salt black pepper garlic powder (1).png

I really like the spinach and semolina fettuccine noodles it adds flavor and it didn’t take a lot of time to cook them. I am all about quick meals and this meal is about 20 to 30 minutes long. This is something I could probably eat every day and maybe just eat as a soup. Get rid of the pasta and eat the bean sauce, right? I also feel like you can substitute a lot of the vegetables for other options. maybe instead of the peppers we add carrots or corn.

Try it and tell me what you think. I would love to try and make more healthy or vegetarian dishes. I could do a video trying to make meals I’ve never made before. I don’t really like cooking so maybe it’s not a good idea. Anyway I hope you enjoyed yourselves while you were here. Thanks for reading, Bye! Ps. I never know how to end a post.

Fearing failure And Success?

Recently I realized that not only did I fear failure, I fear success. So let’s set the mood. It’s 3 am and your having 3 am thoughts, life changing thoughts. The anxiety immobilizes me as I stare up at my ceiling.  And I kept thinking how much It scared me to actually grow this blog. I thought about how much it scared me to think about making friendships and achieving my dreams. And I realized that I was afraid for being good at something and of other people liking me for that. Failure was a fear that I was use to especially for someone who deals with self doubt. I didn’t even know it was possible to fear success.

And for some reason, failure is more comfortable then success. I want to change that though. And the more I’ve been putting myself out there, the more I have been challenging my fears.

As a person who has dealt with self doubt and someone who is hard on themselves about almost everything, it can be  hard picking myself up and telling myself to keep going. I don’t really know what I’m doing but I know I can’t give up.

There’s so many time wheres I just want to give up and quit and just not do the thing that I  want to do. But, I have to remind myself to stay strong and continue.

My idea of success is achieving the things you set out to do. Sometimes I feel like I sabotage myself. As soon as I get close to completing or being good at something, then I come up with a excuse to stop.

My idea of failure is giving up at the first sign of a fight or struggle. I find it easier to give up, maybe because most things came easy to me growing up. I feel like I was never pushed past my comfort level. I had it easy in school academically and I never found a reason to push my self to do better in school and that same mentality has stayed. But now it’s time for that same mentality to die out.

So, I hope this blog succeeds, I hope I achieve all the thing I set out to do. I no longer want have these fears and be less than great. The goal is to be the best me I could ever be.

Fear or Success? Which do you choose?

Failure vs Scuccess

The Thing About Youth …

21 things I’ve learned in my 21 years of life.

In honor of turning 21 today, I decided to share 21 things I’ve learned in the past 21 years of my life. I was born May 21, 1998 around 1 am and it’s crazy to think how much I’ve changed and grown over the years. And there’s a lot that I have learned and taken a way from my experiences.

Taken from Pinterest

The List (21)

  •  The only person you can control is yourself.  I realized that if you stop trying to control the things that happen around you and to you and focus on how you respond to these things, then you become so much more happier. When you try and control everything then you yourself  become out of control and when you take control back , it’s the best feeling ever. It makes it very hard for things to get under your skin.

  • You manifest your thoughts/ life. I love this quote by a philosopher named Lao Tzu. he says,“Watch your thoughts, they become your words; watch your words, they become your actions; watch your actions, they become your habits; watch your habits, they become your character; watch your character, it becomes your destiny.” It’s basically saying  your thoughts determine how your life will be. If you think your going to be horrible at something, chances are you will be.  It’s all about believing in yourself and being kind to yourself.

  • Every one’s perspective and or reality is different.  I realized this after arguing with someone in my family and hearing there view of a memory be completely different from mine and I thought they were seriously lying. That could be the case but I think it’s more to do with how they perceived what was happening. And sometimes they recall things that may not have happened but because they feel a type of way  then it becomes canon. ” This is what you said, ” and your thinking I didn’t say that all. People hear what they want to hear, and they will take what you said and flip it and it may not be intentional. Sometimes when people call me names in a argument and I just tell them I’ll be what ever you want me to be. And because Of this realization I came to the conclusion that you can’t deny the way people feel or you can’t necessarily say your right or their wrong.

  • Reading books can help you with reading people. This may or may not be far reached but I often feel like reading books helps me to be more aware of others and how I make them feel. In books there’s so much attention to body language and other small details. I often find myself looking for those tell tell sign with others in order to see how I make them feel.  Do I make them feel uncomfortable? Do they like me? And it makes me self aware and I  make sure I am being respectful and kind and so that  it comes off that way. If you read books let me know if you feel this way.

  • Be Grateful. I always for get to appreciate the things I do have instead of  pitying myself for the things I don’t have. I mean, things can be worse.

  • Don’t be afraid to ask questions. You don’t get anywhere in life if you don’t ask questions when you don’t know something.

  • It’s okay to change your mind. Your thoughts then shouldn’t be your thoughts now. Everyone has the right to change their mind and have no one judge them for it because everyone changes. And if you don’t change then you’re not growing.

  • Breathe. We all are guilty of holding are breaths in moments of stress  and it’s important to breathe your way through it and things will get better.

  • Make sure you do things because you want to and not because someone else does.  Life can be stressful when everyone’s telling you what to do with it.

  • Take responsibility for your actions.  Be responsible for your actions, yourself, and for your mental, emotional and physical state. No one can take care of you better than you and don’t blame others for your choices.

  • Surround yourself around positive people and people who have similar goals. These people are only gonna lift you up and challenge you.

  • Mental health is a serious thing and everyone should take notes. Your mental health is always on the line and should be just as important as your physical health because they are one in the same.

  • Self love is the real deal. It’s important to take time to show yourself love and do things for yourself.

  • I can’t live with out music. Music has gotten me through a lot of tough situations and I can’t imagine a life without it.

  • The world is big and I am truly small.  There’s so many people and animals and life forms that exist on planet earth. It’s really crazy when you think about it, like how the hell do we all fit?

  • People are crazy. We all are truly out of our minds and we all love it.

  • Trust your self. Trust that you will do the right thing, trust that you will succeed, and trust that you are capable in life.

  • Dogs are the best. they are there with you through all your ups and downs. They are there with you throughout different stages of your life. And they always make you feel loved.

  • You can do anything with a phone and Wifi. So many people are able to make careers with just theses two items and a little bit of determination. You also have the world at your hands and that makes it harder for people to stay ignorant.

  • It’s okay to agree to disagree. You don’t always have to be right and the quickest way to dissolve a pointless argument is to agree to disagree.

  • Don’t take your self so seriously. Laugh at yourself and don’t be afraid to knock yourself down a notch especially when your ego’s in the way.
